Lara Mardell of Edwin Coe specialises in providing advice on tax, trusts and succession planning to individuals, families or their representatives, particularly where there is an international connection.

‘I find cross-border matters particularly interesting,’ she says, though also noting that they sometimes come with inherent complications. ‘There’s often a risk that people end up with a tax bill from two high-tax jurisdictions, such as the UK and US, so it can be rewarding to help clients structure so that at least they only have tax in one of these.’ 

Mardell notes a growing appetite for simplicity when it comes to tax, avoiding more complex and artificial structures. 

She previously worked at BDB Pitmans in London and Ogier in Hong Kong.
