David Goldthorpe
Spear’s Review
Head of Sotheby’s rare books and manuscripts department, where he has been since 1996, Dr David Goldthorpe is a stalwart of the auction world and true academic to boot.
A specialist in natural history and travel books, maps and atlases, and an experienced generalist, he also has a PhD in the early English novel.
Over the last 25 years he has worked on some major single-owner book sales, including those of the Earls of Macclesfield, the late Lord Wardington and Lord Hesketh. Other clients range from ‘people with just one good item’ to those who have collected ‘massive libraries’. His team of experts auction items on behalf of big dealers as well as private customers.
