Corney & Barrow
Used to doing things its own way, Corney & Barrow was the first firm to develop close relationships between merchants and growers, a concept then alien to the industry. ‘People laughed at us,’ admits MD Adam Brett-Smith.‘We trust our growers, and our growers trust us. If you choose them carefully, the value remains constant.’
With a heritage tracing back to the 18th century, Corney & Barrow represents Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Pomerol. Interest is now starting to move away from blended varieties – a shift indicated by the surging prices in Burgundy. ‘It’s wine that is interpreted and translated by a specific vineyard with a specific sense of place,’ Brett-Smith says.
