Kim Beatson

Spear's Review

Praised by clients for efficiency and her ‘no-nonsense approach’, Kim Beatson has a natural flair for resolving complex issues. ‘I am extremely curious, which is why family law suits me,’ says Beatson, who has led the team for more than 20 years.

In recent years she notes a marked increase in fathers applying for improved parental arrangements. ‘Fathers quite rightly will not put up with alternate weekend contact and are much more involved than they used to be.’

A significant area of Beatson’s practice is child relocation, both international and internal. She lectures annually on the subject for the International Family Law Conference. She has also written for a range of publications, including New Law Journal, Times Online and Family Law. Her most significant current cases involve relocation applications to China, Canada and Holland.

Adviser Profile

Based in our London Bridge office, Kim Beatson developed and now leads our nationally renowned Family and Dispute Resolution team.

The solicitor writes and lectures on child relocation on an annual basis and is one of the most experienced leave to remove practitioners in the country. Her most significant cases this year involve applications to relocate to Germany and Holland.

Head of Family Law at Anthony Gold, Kim's work also covers a broad range of clients including finance, pre-nuptial arrangements, unmarried couples and international work. One of her clients described her as having "a no–nonsense approach. She is one of the most efficient people I have ever come across". Kim specialises in all aspects of family law; however, she has particular expertise in facilitating complex financial settlements for both married and cohabiting couples.

One of the first solicitors in the country to qualify as a family mediator, Kim Beatson is focussed on problem solving whether through litigating, mediating or other forms of dispute resolution with frequent referrals from other family lawyers.

As one of the first solicitors in the country to qualify as a family mediator in 1987, Kim Beatson was a pioneer in advancing mediation as a form of helping couples resolve disputes outside of the Courts. She now has a substantial mediation practice, with many other family Solicitors referring work onto her.

Kim is also a commercially trained mediator (ADR Group) and frequently uses shuttle mediation in high conflict cases and hybrid mediation when clients attend with their respective lawyers.

Her success rate is noted amongst her referrers and she is probably one of the most popular mediators in the country.
