Glen Atchison

Glen Atchison is managing partner at Harbottle & Lewis, and the firm’s ‘go-to guy’ for UHNWs, HNWs, family offices and trusts for UK and international tax and succession planning, asset protection, and succession structures. The firm’s clients are ‘looking for adviser relationships built on trust,’ he says. ‘They come to us because of our outstanding responsiveness and strong industry connections. We combine the highest quality innovative legal advice with exceptional client service, and are the leading provider to private capital and technology, media and entertainment clients.’

Clients are impressed that the Harbottle & Lewis teams ‘listen’, and through doing so Atchison is proud that ‘over 90 per cent of clients responded that they received value exceeding fees paid’. The Private Client department has ‘exploded in size and success in recent years, mirroring that of our clients, a significant number of whom are entrepreneurs in new tech disruptive technologies, clients associated with the creative industries and leading families, wealth creators and business owners. Our clients are internationally mobile and globally minded. The modern culture and attitude of our lawyers, combined with the services provided by our wider departments, is better placed to serve their needs than more traditional private client practices’.

In 2020, the arrival of partners Zoë Camp from New Quadrant Partners (NQP), Marianne Kafena from Farrer & Co and Sofie Hoffman from Edmonds Marshall McMahon, as well as senior associates Morag Ofili from Mishcon de Reya, Alexa Collis and associate Claudia Morosini (also from NQP) follows closely on from the successful integration of Jonathan Burt and Siena Gold – all strategic moves orchestrated by Atchison which further strengthened ‘our stellar private client tax and contentious trusts and tax litigation teams and made the private client world take notice of our significant upward trajectory’. Then there’s the addition of Catherine Bedford’s ‘absolutely top class family team with whom we work ever closer with on very substantial, complex and high profile matters’. The department’s expansion ‘demonstrates commitment and significant investment into this important area’.

‘We’re generating major new work opportunities from both old and new client bases – blending excellent core private client, tax, trust and succession work with bespoke and creative advice and harnessing our unique set of skills. It’s a very exciting time for the firm,’ he says. Highlights include acting for a number of investment groups and multi-family offices, which involves Atchison working with them as a trusted adviser to provide a full advisory service to their UHNW investors, families and individuals.
