Nick Sanderson

Nick Sanderson is one of Cazenove Capital’s portfolio directors working within the business owners team. Sanderson tells Spear’s he is the go-to man for those seeking capital growth, but with less risk than they might be taking in their own personal ventures. He says: ‘My client-base is made up of entrepreneurial clients, who have likely sold one if not multiple businesses. It is, in short, family wealth looking to achieve the usual objectives: capital growth for a sensible level of risk, transparency on costs and a responsive service that allows the client to focus on their other objectives or business interests.’

2020 has presented a unique challenge for all in wealth management. However, many of Sanderson’s clients have faced the twin worries of volatile markets and the impact of the pandemic on their businesses.

Thankfully, with strong and resilient performance from portfolios, Sanderson and Cazenove Capital have been able to reduce at least some of the anxiety that 2020 has created for clients. Responsiveness and the ability to explain complex market movements to business owners with little market knowledge are key skills for Sanderson. He believes they have been instrumental in allowing him to help clients navigate what has been an unprecedented year in the markets.

Cazenove Capital is the wealth management arm of Schroders and offers a complete service to HNWs and UHNWs and family offices. Services include tailored wealth planning and investment management, together with banking and lending.

Despite the pandemic, Sanderson reports that the market for mergers and acquisitions has been buoyant. As a result, he and the firm continue to attract new clients who have sold part or all of their business to private equity buyers. An integral part of this activity is the joint venture between Lloyds Banking Group and Schroders. Sanderson plays a key role in managing the relationship between Lloyds commercial bank and Cazenove Capital. (Indeed, Cazenove itself has been active in the M&A market. In 2020 it was announced that the firm would acquire leading family office services provider Sandaire.)

‘Cazenove has a world-class offering for business owners and entrepreneurs and our reputation in this space is getting stronger and stronger,’ says Sanderson. ‘It is just great to be so close to the centre of it.’
