DescriptionJackie Wells joined Taylor Vinters in 2000 to set up its family law practice.
It is always the human interest angle of a case that keeps her hooked. ‘I am a firm believer in investing time at the outset in getting to know the client, what his or her priorities are, and then working hard to deliver the right outcome,’ she observes.
Clients offer high praise. One celebrity wrote: ‘You have done an incredible job in steering me through some choppy waters without taking too much sea on board.’ Another highly impressed client said: ’You handled my divorce as if it were as important to you as it was to me and I thank you for that’.
The work is all-consuming, but there are also moments of great satisfaction for Wells.
‘Knowing that a child will see a parent for the first time in ages, after I’ve mediated a successful pro bono in court session, can rank equally in terms of job satisfaction with chasing down millions of pounds of assets over three jurisdictions on behalf of the financially weaker spouse.’
Wells is also responsible for heading up the firm’s Entrepreneurial Wealth team, which involves making sure all the personal law requirements of the individuals behind the diverse businesses for which the firm acts are being catered for.
This ranges from wealth preservation advice, including strategic estate planning and marital agreements, to dispute resolution such as contentious probate and divorce.
She has relished her new role at Taylor Vinters from the outset. ’Taking over the leadership of the firm’s private client offering, recalibrating what we do, how we deliver it and leading a team of exceptional private wealth and family lawyers has got me out of bed every morning with a spring in my step,’ she says.
The diversity of her client base also keeps the job interesting for her – they can range from the chief executive of a global telecoms company, or the head of a US bank in Asia, to a reality TV star needing divorce advice.
‘They are all motivated by different things, but they come to Taylor Vinters for our expertise and pragmatism and they recognise the value that we can bring to resolving their situation,’ says Wells, who is regularly invited to comment in the media on topical family law issues and delivering training to other professionals.
