Promoted last year to Edwin Coe’s head of tax, Sean Bannister says his clients appreciate his ability to communicate ‘complex concepts’ and ensure that they are best-placed to make the right decisions for their affairs.
Praised by the firm’s managing partner, David Kinch, for his technical expertise, Bannister currently acts for HNWs and UHNWs and their advisers, many of whom have assets and business interests in multiple countries. ‘My aim is to ensure their tax affairs are administered in a framework that is both effective and compliant,’ he says.
A seasoned adviser on multi-jurisdictional issues, Bannister has particular expertise in advising non-domiciled clients on navigating the UK tax landscape, as well as advising non-UK residents who are looking to acquire business or property interests in the UK and structure their arrangements effectively.
He has also advised a number of clients (both individuals and companies) facing serious fraud enquiries or who have sought to make use of HMRC’s available disclosure facilities.
Other notable cases of late include advising on the establishment of a non-UK life assurance policy to hold overseas fund units with a value in excess of $100 million, and advising on the UK exit to Monaco of a non-domiciled individual in advance of them becoming ‘deemed domiciled’.
