Henry Hood

Henry Hood is head of the family department at Hunters, a central pillar in upholding the multi-disciplinary firm’s objective to identify clients’ needs and tailor work to each set of circumstances. He has over 20 years of experience in the sector, following a career in commercial litigation. Hood is now a specialist in high value and high complexity divorce cases, with experience of financial claims involving substantial wealth and complex UK and foreign assets. His work also includes sensitive children matters, where his knowledge and understanding is indispensable, as well as regular advice on prenuptial agreements in the context of family wealth protection planning.

Hood’s focus extends further, to landed estates, largely as a product of his farming background, which means he is particularly conscious of the complexities that can arise in such cases, including dynastic trusts, partnerships and liquidity.

Hood has one overarching aim: ‘To achieve a fair outcome for my clients with the least amount of collateral damage to resources and ongoing relationships.’ To achieve these ends, Hood frequently asks clients two questions:‘In 10 years’ time, if you were to look back at the process of your separation and divorce, how do you want it to look?’, and,‘What form would your children want the process to take?’ ‘If both sides have these thoughts in mind, things generally go better,’ he says.

Hood’s ability to minimise damage, both financial and emotional, is unsurprising given his qualifications. He is a Resolution-accredited specialist in complex financial cases and private children work, an accredited mediator, a family arbitrator (finance only), and collaborative lawyer. It is also evidenced in the calibre of cases that he takes on. ‘Over the last year, notable cases have included a substantial transatlantic prenuptial agreement, and a large case involving a landed estate with all the issues of value vs liquidity that such cases so often throw up,’ Hood tells Spear’s.

The Hunters department head has been successfully acting for clients ranging from UHNW individuals and their spouses to bankers, entrepreneurs, senior lawyers and substantial property owners, both urban and rural, for two decades. During that time, his efforts have been recognised by the Citywealth Magic Circle Awards, where he was awarded the Career Achievement Award in 2019, on the Honours list where he was deemed a leading lawyer in family and matrimonial work, and by Chambers and Legal 500, where he was also ranked in that discipline. Needless to say, Hood is also a staple in the Spear’s family law indices.
