With more than 35 years of industry experience, Bargate Murray CEO Quentin Bargate is an influential and highly respected figure in superyacht and dispute resolution work. A trusted adviser to UHNW individuals, their family offices and UK-based and international corporations, he advises on all aspects of the ownership, acquisition and disposal of luxury assets.
‘Over time, the company evolved into the modern organisation it is today, led by clients and their requirements,’ he tells Spear’s of the company he founded 16 years ago. Bargate has expertise in a wide range of projects, from construction of large new build yachts to their sale and purchase, as well as in the prevention and resolution of disputes. He has achieved considerable success acting for clients in high value maritime arbitrations and commercial disputes. Many of these disputes leverage Bargate’s deep litigation experience in the superyacht, aviation and commercial sectors, and as an arbitrator, party representative and advocate.
Bargate is one of just a handful of leaders to whom clients turn for advice and representation. It’s for this reason that he is highlighted as a Leading Individual in the Chambers HNW 2019 Guide for ‘Yachts & Superyachts’.
‘The company is structured to ensure that our advice is always director-led and cost effective,’ he says. ‘The company’s reputation in assisting with the broader luxury asset classes, such as HNW property and fine art, continues to expand and impress. It’s an approach that is favoured by a clientele including family offices and high-profile UHNWs, whose privacy is always key among its practice. Business over the last year has continued on an ‘upward trajectory.’
A source comments on Bargate’s ‘huge amount of litigation experience’, adding that ‘his advice is always helpful and he is very practical’.
Bargate is a member of the Baltic Exchange and the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands yacht advisory committee. Also, he is a member of the LMAA, the Nautical Institute, the IOD, the Royal Thames Yacht Club, and is a Freeman of the City of London.
One of the defining features of Bargate Murray’s practice is its utmost discretion for its clients. This, combined with the firm’s range of expertise, explains the success that Bargate Murray has enjoyed retaining clients for many years. As Bargate says: ‘The long-term interests of every client are always at the forefront of every member of the firm’.
