Nataša Williams

In wealth management terms, LGT Vestra is now one of the major players on the scene. This growth is most apparent on the desk of Nataša Williams, who heads the company’s Private Office, offering highly personalised services to sophisticated UHNWs, family offices and family businesses.

In 2019 her team – which consists of 15 members with diverse backgrounds in private banking and wealth management, and experience across the fields of M&A, private equity, accountancy, law and charity trusteeship – surpassed £1 billion AuM. ‘We have added to our client base – in particular we’ve seen more and more technology entrepreneurs knock on our doors,’ says Williams.

‘We’ve also focused on issues surrounding governance – how clients project their own objectives – and broadened our services in response to client concerns. We started a private equity programme and have given our clients access to a select few niche funds – and the take-up is rising,’ she says.

She focuses on entrepreneurs, advising on the journey from being a business owner to becoming an investor. ‘It’s what we are very good at,’ she adds. Williams notes that clients want ‘niche trends’ in the technology space to capitalise on from early stages. They have also been ‘surprisingly calm’ about market volatility, she observes, telling Spear’s, ‘Increasingly, there’s an understanding that interest rates are unlikely to rise and, in order to beat inflation and generate returns, it is necessary to expose portfolios to some volatility.’

She is also warmed by the increased referrals of clients’ wider family members, who are often facing liquidity events. ‘It feels like our family meets the family of the client, and the connections are getting closer and closer. It’s a testimony to the quality of our offering and the service’.

Before joining LGT Vestra in 2013, Williams spent nine years as a client adviser at UBS and Deutsche Bank. Prior to wealth management, she was a mergers and acquisitions banker focusing on financial institutions, having first qualified as a chartered accountant with PwC. Recalling her time as a trainee accountant working from clients’ basements, she admits, ‘I was craving daylight and was hoping to move “upstairs” one day. I then proceeded to the M&A department, where I focused on cross-border deals’. It was there that a colleague noticed her knack for explaining complex terms in simple and relatable language. ‘People trust me because they understand me,’ concurs Williams. ‘I often think that I am a translator between financial speak and normal language’.
