Hampden Capital

HAMPDEN IS A privately owned financial services group that was established in the 1970s. It has a diverse portfolio of interests, and the success of its investment strategy has meant that it has been consistently recognised in The Sunday Times’ Profit Track and International Track indices. Its principal trading companies operate at Lloyd’s of London and the wider insurance market, and include:

HAMPDEN AGENCIES LIMITED, which is the largest Lloyd’s Members’ Agency and is the leading provider of advisory and support services to HNW individuals, families and corporations underwriting at Lloyd’s. Together, Hampden Agencies’ 1,200 private, corporate and institutional investor clients provide capital that supports over £3 billion of underwriting capacity at Lloyd’s.

Hampden Agencies’ main aim is to provide its clients with a balanced portfolio and thereby optimise the chances for profitability over the insurance cycle. It also plays a key role in terms of facilitating and administering the Lloyd’s membership process. Client service is of paramount importance, and is delivered through rigorous research, administration and an individual client-focused approach. Limited liability underwriting at Lloyd’s is of particular interest to many individuals and families, offering diversification, double use of assets, historical lack of correlation with mainstream investments and potential Inheritance Tax benefits for UK taxpayers (through Business Property Relief ).

Since 2001, Hampden Agencies has provided its clients with an average annualised IRR of 14.6% (which includes the two loss making years of 2001 (World Trade Center attacks) and 2017 (which suffered from a particularly active hurricane season – most notably Harvey, Irma & Maria), as well as the challenging underwriting conditions in 2018 and 2019).

NOMINA PLC is the market-leader in providing management, accounting and administration services for limited liability vehicles (LLVs) underwriting at Lloyd’s. It currently administrates a airs on behalf of approximately 1,500 LLVs.

Nomina’s services include compliance, accounting, audit support and reporting to HMRC, in addition to the provision of directors, company secretary or designated members to LLPs. This enables clients to concentrate on their underwriting strategy and its performance, rather than on administrative matters.
