‘This particular field is very complex diagnostically, and so it is very rewarding,’ says Vanash Patel, a consultant colorectal surgeon with a private practice at HCA Healthcare’s Wellington Hospitals in Hertfordshire and London, and the Spire Bushey Diagnostic Centre in Hertfordshire. 

His specialism is in bowel cancer treatment, focusing primarily on robotic and complex surgeries, alongside lower-acuity conditions such as haemorrhoids. His use of minimally invasive techniques means that patients experience ‘much less pain and complications, and scarring is minimal’, Patel says. ‘Overall, the outcome is better.’

A key factor that draws patients to the practice is its use of remote monitoring technology, allowing them to undergo operations and return home the following day to recover. In addition, the team is ‘available seven days a week, even on bank holidays’.
